The original equipment power steering pump pulley on certain Jeep Wrangler SUVs is manufactured from plastic, and susceptible to damage from on- or off-road debris or breakage during routine service when a proper tool isn't used to remove the pulley. The dealership offers the same plastic design that can invite similar future problems, including the unpredictable steering, belt wear and burning rubber odor that accompanies a failing pulley.
